My 7 key takeaways:
The Biggest Sin Is Zero Sum Thinking
There are so many questions about whether a layer has value, margins, or is defensible.
Every layer has gained value.
The one sin is not playing the game.
Have All the Foundation Model Winners Already Been Founded or World of Many More
We will have new models with different flavours.
We are still early: Google was a 3rd gen search engine, Facebook was a 3rd gen social network.
There’s a lot of change to come.
How Will Value Disperse in New AI Markets, and How Important Is Brand Recognition in Establishing Dominance?
The markets are so large & growing so fast, we are seeing brand effects emerge.
Whoever becomes a household name will get the adoption.
Market leaders will have brand monopolies until the market slows down.
App Providers Have a Unique Opportunity to Create Models Where LLM Providers Don’t
Model scaling approaches aren’t generalized.
Models that are good at coding may not be good at other things.
App providers have an opportunity to build their own models that the large models aren’t focused on.
It Is a BS Argument to Suggest These Will Always Be Negative Margin Businesses
Founders with access to relatively cheap capital need to make a trade‑off between margins and distribution during the land‑grab phase
If they do not acquire users during that period, they will never be able to monetize them.
Sacrificing margin for distribution is a rational decision
Why Chinese Open Source Is the Most Dangerous
They are better at it than we are.
As a result, we are seeing a proliferation of Chinese open‑source models everywhere.
The right way for us to respond is to fuel our open source efforts.
Founders Can Have One Mortal Enemy to Block a Competitive Investment.
I tell our portfolio founders they only get one mortal enemy.
They do not get multiple.
Whoever they pick, we will kill them together.
Thursday’s episode with Rory O'Driscoll, GP @ Scale & Jason Lemkin, Founder @ SaaStr:

My 6 key takeaways:
LPs Are Showing GPs They Want You to Ignore Them.
From their actions they are saying they like fund managers who ignore their advice.
They want fund managers who say thank you for your advice, I am not going to listen and please can I have more money.
The Faster You Deploy, the More Relevant You Are. Is That So?
The person who’s doing more deals has more relevance.
The more you deploy the more relevance you have.
Every Developer Is Going to Get $10,000 of Credits
The best developers will be on AI 24/7.
Every developer at top tech companies should have $10K of AI credits every month.
It is cheaper than hiring any human.
Why the Monopoly Companies of Old Are Not Monopolies Anymore.
All the big incumbents (Apple, Microsoft, Google…) are monopolies in their own market.
They are oligopolies at best in AI.
For all the power they brought to the table, OpenAI & Anthropic are making a run in.
Why the Incumbents Are a Bunch of Rich People on the Back Foot.
Google has executed the best of the four.
Apple doesn’t have a working AI product, Microsoft bought OpenAI’s product but doesn’t quite own it. Meta is desperately trying to buy products without a business to justify it.
They are not too powerful: They are desperately trying to catch up.
Should Apple Fire Tim Cook?
The key to Apple winning isn’t acquiring another AI company.
They absolutely should already have an AI product already.
At some point the board has to ask themselves whether the C-suite has what it takes to win in AI.
